Sector: Pharmaceutical

Project: Zoflora Bottling Plant

Value: £ 470,000

Scope: Electrical

Challenge

Our clients requirement to fulfil an ever increasing demand for Zoflora which is now the UK’s best selling household disinfectant, resulted in the creation of new facility which would enable them to produce 18,000 bottles of Zoflora an hour, increasing output by 100%. It was reported that an overall build of this size would take 18 months to complete, however an ambitious programme of just 8 months was proposed by and agreed with all project stakeholders. Electrical contract works for the project was single sourced to Picow and with early engagement we began a fast track electrical survey and design which was to prove logistically complex to ratify especially concerning primary service routes.

solution

The bulk of the works in this project for Picow lay in the construction of a new services support system from one side of the factory right through the centre of new production facility which is now hidden behind the ceiling panels. Outside of this our general scope for the project included comprehensive cable management systems for band 1, 2, ELV and fire alarm service cabling. This included stainless steel conduits, and large service drops where cabling entered the new facility. Picow had to design and extend the existing LV panel to provide a new 800A switch from which a new main cable fed a new section panelboard and numerous services distribution boards for the production area. Other services included small power and lighting some of which were to be hazardous area rated. We also installed fire alarm and PA systems to site standards and requirements.

outcome

The outcome for this project was certainly a successful one for Picow. The demands made regarding programme were met and certainly helped with the excellent co-ordination between the project team and the site installation contractors. The standard of our single service electrical installation on this project and the way in which our site operatives and management team conducted themselves on site, left a lasting impression once our contracted works were complete. So much so, we are now completing large turnkey projects for this client on a regular basis.
